Recently, I found myself sifting through a treasury of archives. What I found were writings and thoughts of Christian missionaries and leaders from the 20th century. As I reflect back on what I read, one consistent theme prevailed: Urgency.

“...some men’s passion is for gold, other men’s passion is for fame, but my passion is for

souls.” - William Booth

As I look back at the life I have lived, and with each day that the Lord blesses me with…I find myself reflecting on the thought: Do I have an urgency in the purveying of the Gospel message? Are my thoughts, actions, and prayers saturated with an urgency for the advancement of God’s Kingdom?

I am reminded of one of the fast-food jobs I once held. Early in the training for this position, I was instructed that in order to succeed at my job…I needed to possess a sense of urgency so that the customers would not get upset. In this role, urgency was the expectation, not the exception.

Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.” - John 4:35

The task has been relayed through history…God’s Kingdom must advance. People need to hear. The lost will be found. Light will shine in the darkness. Are we up for the challenge? Is urgency for the advancement of God’s Kingdom an expectation in our life? If not, why?

“Oh, to burn out for God! All, all for Him! Jesus only! Souls! Souls! Souls! I am

determined to be a winner of souls. God help me.” - James Caughey

Prayer: Jesus, help me be more urgent in the task at hand…advancing Your Kingdom. Give me the strength and courage to live a life completely for You. Wake me up to the world around me. Use me for Your purposes. Amen.
